STASH REPORT SUNDAY

Fabric used this week  2.25 yards
Fabric used year to date  168.875 yards
Fabric added this week  0 yards
Fabric added year to date  98.875 yards
Net used 2015  68 yards

My quilting group wanted to try a small bargello project this season.  I chose Christmas fabrics, as I'm trying to use as much as I possibly can.  I swear they multiply when I'm out of my sewing room!

Here's my finished runner, just  in time for Christmas.
We're planning a low-key Christmas this year - just us and a friend for dinner.  I am cooking a turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, turnip casserole and green beans, and with any luck, there will be homemade rolls as well!  What good is cooking Christmas dinner if there aren't any leftovers to enjoy!

I feel like I've been spinning my tires!  I've been sewing every day, but the call of the lovely weather has other ideas.  We bike ride every day, and lots of our friends have arrived, so we've been catching up on all the summer happenings.  I'm not complaining, but I really would like to finish a quilt before the end of the year!

Yesterday I cut two lengths of muslin to back a quilt.  I serged the raw edges and put the fabric in the washer and dryer.  I was shocked to find that the pieces I cut 68 inches long, shrunk in length to 61 1/4 inches!  This is why I always pre-wash all my fabric!  I knew that I had to add some fabric between the two widths of fabric, but now I have to add another strip lengthwise.  I've been using some 9-patch blocks, made from leftovers, so it will blend with the scrappy quilt top.

Tomorrow we are heading to Epcot to see the Candlelight Procession - listening to the Christmas songs and hearing the huge choir and the full orchestra is one of our holiday rituals.  It always gets me in the Christmas mood.  We also want to start decorating inside and out.  We'll do what we can on Tuesday, then I'm off to my quilting group on Wednesday, and DH's cousins arrive in time for dinner.  I'll probably wait to decorate the tree until after they leave.  Our house is tiny, and the extra decorations make it feel smaller.......just right for two!

Net used 2015  71.25 yards

Another 4 days visiting our grandson and family was great, but takes away from my quilting productivity!
My only accomplishment was to piece a quilt top, using some completed blocks from a guild member.  They were donated to community quilts, as she is trying to reduce her UFO's!  I added 1/2 yard for sashing strips, and completed the top.  It will be delivered to the group's monthly work day on Tuesday.
This weekend in Thanksgiving, so I have a turkey in the oven, and a pumpkin pie cooling on the counter.  It is just DH and I for dinner, so we'll have lots of leftovers to enjoy in our final few weeks before the bi-annual relocation!

STASH REPORT SUNDAY

Fabric added year to date  36 yards
Net used 2014  107.25 yards

Nothing has changed in the past two weeks - I have finished all my quilting duties for a while, and am slowly getting back to my own projects.

My hexagon hydrangea project is on hold until I find an appropriate backing in my stash.  I also began cutting and piecing a kid's project, but nothing to show so far....

Holidays and birthdays, mine included, have kept us busy for the past week.  DH and his friend had another guitarist join their group this week ( he plays with them while south during the winter).  He came for a few days, so lots of rehearsal time, and then a performance at a nursing home on Friday, then at a fundraiser for Military Families on Saturday.  Next time he comes to town, he'll stay with us.

I have to get some baking done this afternoon - DS2 and wife, and DS1 will be arriving on Thursday night for a few days.  It is the Buskers festival this week, and they love to come and watch all the entertainment.

STASH REPORT AND EASTER SUNDAY

HAPPY EASTER TO EVERYONE!

Fabric used this week  19.625 yards
Fabric used year to date  103.125 yards
Fabric added this week  0 yards
Fabric added year to date  28.5 yards
Net used 2014  74.625 yards

I was finally able to count the fabric used in two quilts that were made while I was south for the winter, including backing fabric that was added just before we returned north.

Boxy Stars was made with tons of scraps, all leftover from previous projects.  The only "new" fabric was the striped border and the backing, both picked up on sale.   Machine pieced and quilted.
Cherry Pie Friends began as a  small panel, and a collection of cherry themed fabrics.  The group sat together for more years than I'd like to admit, before the inspiration hit.  The backing was new fabric, also picked up on sale.  Machine pieced and quilted, with unstuffed piped binding, sewn by machine.

We're having a quiet Easter, but our two sons and families will be visiting next weekend.  They don't like to travel on a holiday weekend, so they drive to our home on Thursday night, taking Friday as a day off.  That way they have a nice visit before returning on Sunday.

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

I know this is a special day for all my American friends, and it is special for me too!
Today is my birthday!!!!

I have wonderful memories of the 4th while we were stationed at Tyndall AFB in Panama City FL.  I joined a community concert band while we were there, and we played a concert every 4th.  I can still hear all the wonderful music - love those military marches!

I'm having a quiet day at home today.  My brother and his wife, who headed back to Guilin, China today, sent me a beautiful jade necklace, and DS2 and his wife gave me an Ipod!  Now I have to figure out how to load some music onto it!!!!

DH and I are heading out for dinner tonight - nothing special, but I don't have to cook.  When our boys were small, I always had to bake myself a birthday cake!

I got all the basic quilting finished on the Dolly X-block quilt, and did the hand sewing of the binding last night.  Now I get to add some of the "fun" quilting!!!
